BACKGROUND INFORMATION OF BEACON YOUTH MOVEMENT NGO (BYM)
Beacon Youth Movement (BYM) is a Non Governmental Organization, non-profitable, non-political, non religious, non tribal, self existence and dependent social organization that work through volunteers to educate, enlighten youth and the community through awareness campaign, sensitization, mobilization, town hall meetings/dialogue and advocacy.
We adopt the principle of participatory methodologies in our approaches to developmental issues.
BYM OBJECTIVES
- To enlighten and educate the youth more on drug abuse and alcoholism.
- To educate and enlighten communities more on endemic (emerging) diseases affecting the community like Hepatitis B Virus (HBV), HIV/Aids, Malaria, Typhoid fever, Diabetes Tuberculosis and other health related issues through Drama, Music and Jamborees.
- To create the means for providing medical assistance for the less privilege.
- Creating awareness for right of a child, youth and women in the society.
- To organize forums, seminars for spreading good living habits, moral values and methods for developing self confidence.
- To collaborate with Government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies to achieve set objectives.
- To Network with similar NGOs so as to mobilize resources to enhance the living standard of our target communities.
- To undertake any other work or functions that may be for the general welfare of the people.

A society where every youth will rise and contribute meaningfully to the healthy growth of the society.
BYM MISSION
To work collectively as youth to avert the health related problems in the society through active participation/involvement in the society to provide a better, safer and healthier society for the less privilege.
BYM GOAL
Our goal is to educate and enlighten the community more on the emerging diseases affecting the community that the community are ignorance of it, the negative complication of abusing drugs/alcohol and producing an active youths which will lead to the growth and development of national and global healthy living, assisting the less privilege in the society through active participation, networking and partnering with other NGOs and related agencies for sustainable development.
ACTIVITIES CONDUCTED SO FAR
- Sensitization, sharing of treated mosquito netting and handbills on facts on Malaria, sanitation of stagnant water in some residential building and awareness campaign on malaria . 31st December 2011.
- Awareness campaign on HIV/AIDS. 1st December 2011.
- Visiting of orphans and vulnerable children’s. 25th November, 2011.
- raising awareness in Radio/television and local newspapers on Hepatitis 12th March, 2012
- Commemorating World Hepatitis Awareness Day 28 July 2012 through Awareness campaigns,Sensitization, free Hepatitis B testing and administrating Vaccines and handbills on facts about Hepatitis
